Breaking down Trudeau's pot data and his anti-pot voting record
In the interview in which we learned that Liberal leader Justin Trudeau had smoked marijuana “five or six times” in his life, including at least once while he was an MP, there was this paragraph and quote attributed to Trudeau:
Trudeau hopes to have a serious discussion with policy experts about legalizing weed this fall. Canadian taxpayers spend more than $500-million a year on enforcement and punishment related to marijuana convictions, he said.
“We are talking about 475,000 people since Stephen Harper has become prime minister who have criminal convictions because of marijuana,” the Liberal leader said. “Those are lives ruined.”
That was in an interview published Aug. 22.

Trudeau is right – "Embarrassed" pot activist says "I am wrong, wrong, wrong."
Earlier this week, Justin Trudeau was telling reporters that he had smoked pot perhaps “five or six times” in his life.
But in a 2010 video, Canada’s most well-known pot activist, Marc Emery said he had smoked “gaggers” with Trudeau “four or five times.”

Asked this week about Emery’s claim, Trudeau said Emery had it wrong.

The good news and bad news about federal Liberal fundraising
The federal Liberals are circulating the following to their membership. The leader Justin Trudeau says the lastest fundraising numbers have some good news and bad news:

Journalist McQuaig wants to be an MP
Toronto Star columnist Linda McQuaig will announce today she is seeking the NDP nomination in Toronto Centre. The Star‘s Susan Delacourt reports:
[McQuaig] recognizes that the prevailing winds in Toronto Centre and beyond may favour new Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, but McQuaig said that NDP Leader Tom Mulcair is her clear choice.“When it comes to issues, performance, brains, just sheer effectiveness, [Mulcair] just has (Trudeau) totally beat,” she said. “What’s important to me is that Mulcair and the NDP is more progressive.”

Justin Trudeau ad: "Together we will build a better country"
It took a few days but the Liberal Party of Canada has responded to the Conservative attack ad launched within hours of Trudeau winning his party’s leadership. I have personally spotted the attack ad running on widely viewed television shows like American Idol on CTV and during baseball games on Sportsnet. I’ve heard reports from others who have seen it during NHL hockey games. That demonstrates two things: a) the Conservatives have lots of money and b) a lot of people saw the Tory ad. Conservatives take Trudeau out of context in ad. Surprised?
The ad, above, is one of a trio of “attack ads” the Conservative Party of Canada launched today some of which are apparently airing on news channels and which, of course, are available on the Web.
In the ad posted here, there is what, on its face, would appear to be a deadly-killer line from Trudeau “Quebecers are better than the rest of Canada.”
But, as CTV parliamentary reporter Danielle Hamandjian explains in a series of tweets today (reproduced below), that quote lifted by the Conservatives comes from a 1999 interview on CTV in which Justin Trudeau was explaining the views of his father, Pierre Trudeau. In other words, that killer-quote does not belong to Justin. Rather it is Justin paraphrasing Pierre to explain his father’s views. Continue reading Conservatives take Trudeau out of context in ad.
