All federal parties are in a mad push these final few days of the year to boost their fundraising numbers before the quarter ends. So far, the only pitch I’ve seen to use a “celebrity” came, today, from the Liberals, over the signature of  “Chantal Kreviazuk, Juno Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter” (whose music I quite admire, I must say). Kreviazuk says she supports Trudeau and while she does not say “join me in making a donation”, you will see (below) that there is a pitch from the party for cash is between her endorsement and her signature. Thing is, I can find no record in Elections Canada’s database of any donation by any Kreviazuk in Canada to any Liberal anywhere. More here .. Spirit of Radio: Ad wars pitch Conservatives versus Liberals

radio

Across the country this holiday season, voters who listen to radio will be hearing pitches from Prime Minister Stephen Harper and from Liberal leader Justin Trudeau.

Maybe.

The Liberals have announced that they have two different radio ads ready to go. You can listen to them on their Web site but, so far at least, I have no reports that anyone has actually heard them in the wild. Continue reading Spirit of Radio: Ad wars pitch Conservatives versus Liberals

Paperwork makes the world go around: Liberal get set for 338 universe

The following notice was in the Canada Gazette this morning. One might think that Liberals were giving up in, say, Wascana — the riding of Ralph Goodale. Expect the flurry of paperwork to continue for the next few weeks. Continue reading Paperwork makes the world go around: Liberal get set for 338 universe

One year until Canada's 42nd general election: Can we get $5 from you?

We’re one year from the 42nd general election in Canada’s history. A new poll from the folks at Ekos Sunday says the Liberals start this 365-day countdown well out in front but that the NDP may be the party to watch.

In any event, all parties are blitzing their volunteers looking for the money they’ll need — the national campaign will need an estimated $22 million alone during the four or five week writ period — and here’s what landed in the inboxes of supporters Sunday:

The Conservatives have a fundraising goal which they are trying to hit Sunday night: Continue reading One year until Canada's 42nd general election: Can we get $5 from you?

New Brunswick proposes new federal riding boundaries

New Brunswick today became the second province to see what its proposed new federal riding boundaries might look like. (Newfoundland and Labrador was first off the mark last month).

The proposed changes in New Brunswick do not look, to my eyes, as radical a re-drawing as they do in Newfoundland though there’s a fascinating Twitter discussion happening as I write this around the #nbpoli hashtag.

Daily Brief Video: Conservative MP John Williamson defends the "reprehensible" Cotler calls

The Speaker of the House of Commons — and Conservative MP — Andrew Scheer says what his party was doing to Liberal MP Irwin Cotler was “reprensible.” Conservative MP John Williamson tells the Daily Brief he believes Scheer’s language was “over-the-top” and defends a controversial polling practice.
