Tonight, CTV’s Parliamentary Bureau Chief Robert Fife reported that Senator Mike Duffy tried to use his influence on a CRTC decision involving Sun News Network. Fife cited unnamed sources for this allegation.
The application Sun News Network has before the CRTC is pretty important to me and my colleagues.
Here’s what our network’s vice-president Kory Teneycke has to say about what CTV reported tonight:
Senator Duffy does not, nor has he ever, been employed as a lobbyist for Sun News/Sun Media. Nor have we asked Senator Duffy act as an agent on our behalf.
The CRTC process is a quasi judicial process, not a political one.
We believe we have made a very clear, compelling, and public case for Sun News. It is now in the hands of the CRTC Commissioners, who will make their decision.
We appreciate the support we have received from tens of thousands of Canadians who have mailed letters, signed petitions and emailed the CRTC as a part of their public consultation process.
Are there any honest politicians out there anymore? There seems to be a lot of suspicious happenings at all level of governments. One might think honest people would not want to be associated with such people. I remember as a child I was advised that I would be judged by the company I kept. Never forgot that!

Jim: The fact he was not employed as a lobbyist does not mean no cash was exchanged. Not saying there was, mind you, just that your statement doesn’t actually follow from theirs.
Bill, why should Sun News not be part of a basic cable package. Just because the Media Party says something it sounds like you believe them. At least SNN pays their own bills and are not a burden to taxpayers like the CBC.
I watch CTV, Huffington post, the Blaze, and SNN. Each has it,s own merits and following. If you don’t like it don’t watch it, but don’t spoil it for those that can’t afford the premium packages. Be a little more open minded!
OK, so people’s reputations can be ruined, with so-called journalists digging up details about what politicians said in the kindergarten playground, whom they dated in high school, where they lived with whom, how big a mortgage they carry, and other “essential” information published or broadcast under the guise of “the public’s right to know” … but a so-called journalist’s unnamed source cannot be verified and the public is supposed to accept the journalist’s version on the honour system — you know, the same kind of honour system people like Fife deride about the Senate’s procedures.
His Blondness has become insufferable. One reason why I no longer watch CTV news.
I find it bizarre that the same folks who scream freedom of the press are the very ones who dont want to support Sun News.
As far as I am concerned Sun News deserves to have every support to present its unbiased point of view same as I watch some of the extremist views of Globe and Mail and CBC.
Censoring something because it offends your point of view smacks of religious dogma.
I take pleasure in comparing how an event is reported by differing political journalists…at times one event seems to be two different events when politics is infused. Today the media objective especially over this grossly overblown Senate malfeasance is designed to INFLAME not INFORM the public. TV News today is entertainment with flashing lights and newsreaders who cant speak proper English. And regurgitated stories improperly researched. As a technologist I regret that very few journalists understand engineering or technology or basic science. Stories of success are rarely reported. Negativity is the theme. Little wonder newspapers are becoming extinct, nothing to do with technology and much to do with journalistic substance or lack of it.
