I'll be in Vancouver later this week for the national conference of the Canadian Association of Journalists.
Regular readers of this blog will remember I'd solicited suggestions for restaurants and pubs to have a nosh in. (I'm staying downtown at the conference hotel — the Hyatt Regency.)
Here's the suggestions sent along so far (I take no credit for the spellings or other comments here):
- Cin Cin on Robson St. for pasta, wine, and celebrity-sightings (and a downtown location).
- Maurya on West Broadway for elegant Indian food in a great setting (over the bridge in Kitsilano).
- Opus Hotel in Yaletown for drinks, and all the B-list celebs you want (if they appeared in the Breakfast Club or Heathers, they'll probably show up here). Great lychee nut martinis.
- The BINs – BIN 941 and BIN 942.
- Vij's on Granville and 11th
- Glowbal in Yaletown
- Lumiere (pricey but worth it)
- blue water for seafood.
- Tojo's, best for sushi, on Broadway.
Happy to hear about more suggestions.

I loved Gotham Steakhouse or Bacchus in the Wedgewood Hotel. Or you could try the Boathouse down by Stanley Park. These are great places!
of course the perfect man to ask is professional blogger and culinary reviewer Roland Tanglao at http://www.vaneats.com and/or http://www.rolandtanglao.com
Here are some Vancouver restaurants (I focus here on restaurants that are walking distance and inexpensive ethnic 'hole in the walls', you seem to have all the other categories covered), more recommendations at VanEats.com: http://www.vaneats.com/reviews/restaurants/
1. Brioche in Gastown – great Sicilian pastas, soup, desserts and coffee:
2. The Boss in Chinatown – Cheap and cheerful Cantonese breakfast, lunch and baked goods:
3. Mexico Sabroso on West Hastings near SFU Harbour Centre – great pork al pastor
4. Guu with Otokomae in Gastown (375 Water Street, not open for lunch), Guu with Garlic (1698 Robson) and the original Guu on Thurlow (838 Thurlow) (3 locations of home style Japanese cooking, no sushi, no tempura, no pretension, just great inexpensive food)
5. Phnomh Penh in Chinatown – Chicken Wings and Papaya Salad and other great Vietnamese and Cambodian cuisine
6. Jang Mo Jib (all locations are good but the one nearest you is at: 1719 Robson – Korean – check out the back bone stew
7. Banana Leaf – Malaysian food (roti canai, etc.) – the new Denman location at 1096 Denman is the closest
8. Take 5 Cafe – WiFi, coffee and great Italian Food (like real toasted paninis) – 429 Granville Street
NOT Walking distance but definitely worth checking out if you have a car or can split a cab
1. Habibi's – Lebanese Vegetarian (some of the best food with or without meat in the city, great flavours and spices)
2. Au Petit Cafe – Best Vietnamese sandwiches in the city! Fun Vietnamese ice coffee too (this will cure your jet lag!)
3. Double Double – great Cantonese congee and Chinese doughnuts
4. Green Village – Great Northern style Chinese food (dumplings!)
5. Grand Honour Hot Pot – best Chinese fondue in the city
I could go on and on but the above are just a few.
By the way, the Victoria Chinese restaurant in the Hyatt where you are stayng has tasty (albeit expensive) dim sum.
Enjoy eating in Vancouver!
Try Cru on Broadway just east of Granville, West on Granville just north of Broadway and Parkside on Haro in the West End.
There's a more polished version of this post up at VanEats:

The Bo Kong is a Buddist restaurant that shouldn't be missed. And if you haven't got a room yet, try the Sylvia – inexpensive, well located, a genuine treat.
Dinehere.ca is a site that rates and reviews vancouver restaurants based on users opinions. Its a site that has made its way into my dining out favorite sites. Some of the user reviews are hilarious. Restaurants can be browsed by location, cuisine, and best of all by rank of users votes.
Check out Dinehere.ca
Here is another site about restaurants as well.
