Hermits, nuns and priests: Tuesday morning mass at St. Peter's

Nun praying on St. Peter's Square
A nun prays on St. Peter’s Square, Tuesday morning, just hours before cardinals begin their first round of voting for the next pope. (DAVID AKIN/QMI Agency)

I’ve put up a collection of pictures I took this morning on St. Peter’s Square, including the one above, at my Facebook site.

This nun, and others in that collection, were watching the Mass for the Election of a Roman Pontiff being held inside the Basilica.

You can read the homily or sermon given (in Italian) by Cardinal Sodano here.

  1. Interesting that your picture is of non white person yet what can the world expect except another European White Male as Pope. Funny how he will hail from the very central of the continent where Catholism is moribund and she hails for the growth component. Pictures are worth a least a 1000 words.

  2. For Stephen Smith:
Just as the election of Cardinal Wojtyla broke with tradition, a Polish man rather than an Italian as pontiff, so too will a non-white person occupy the papal throne someday. I wouldn’t go so far as to say a woman in the immediate future … but who knows?

Anyway, what’s so wrong with a white male, European or otherwise? The only colour that matters here is the cardinal red.
