MVP MPs

Today, across our newspaper chain, I try to highlight what I’ll call MVP MPs, as voted on by MPs themselves. Before Christmas, I asked about three dozen MPs from all parties to list one or two MPs from any party they thought had done a good job of serving their constituents and Canadians.

You can read why Conservatives Michelle Rempel, Mike Wallace, and Joe Preston; New Democrats Alexandre Boulerice and Christine Moore; and Liberal Kirsty Duncan were singled out.

But with the extra space that this blog allows, let me also single out some of the other MPs singled out by their peers in my survey. The following were also given a pat on the back by their peers for doing good work. (Presented here in no apparent order)

  • Conservatives: Bernard Trottier, Tom Lukiwski, James Bezan, Wai Young, Kyle Seeback, Stella Ambler, Garry Breitkreuz
  • New Democrats: Helen Laverdiere,Matthew Kelway, Jinny Sims
  • Liberals: Ted Hsu, Marc Garneau

Meanwhile, at this blog, I ran a poll which asked you for your opinion about which MP has impressed you (we’re ruling out cabinet ministers or party leaders for this particular survey). By a landslide, you voted for Candice Hoeppner, the Conservative MP who was led the Conservative charge on the long-gun registry issue. But the work of Boulerice and Rempel also caught your eye. And many picked New Democrat Charlie Angus for kicking up a stink for the people who needed homes in Attawapiskat, in his riding.
