Cabinet speculation: The Rookies

As he gets set to name his cabinet on Thursday, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has a relatively strong crop of MPs who are either first-time MPs or, like B.C.'s John Duncan, returning to the Commons after sitting out the Parliament. Today, we take a look at a few of the names that keep coming up in Ottawa gossip:

Here's the short version:

Stands a good chance:

Leona Aglukkaq (Nunavut – NU)

Gail Shea (Egmont – PE)

Lisa Raitt (Halton – ON)

Bob Dechert (Missississauga-Erindale – ON)

Keith Ashfield – (Fredericton – NB)

John Duncan – (Vancouver Island North – BC)

Stands an outside chance:

Lois Brown (Newmarket-Aurora ON)
Peter Kent (Thornhill – ON)
Shelley Glover (St. Boniface – MB)

Alice Wong (Richmond – BC)

John Weston (West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea-to-Sky Country – BC)

Rodney Weston (Saint John – NB)

  1. When I clicked on “read more” I got this message:
Safari can’t open the page “http://http://www.canada.com/topics/news/national/story.html?id=9286acdd-a995-468d-9e08-74934d6c9cec” because it can’t find the server “http”.

  2. I wonder if critics will stop saying how thin the talent of PM Harper's front bench is. Their usual explanation is: “How many ministers can the average Canadian name?” as if in previous governments ministers were household names to the “average Canadian.”

  3. Hmm, but something's not quite right. It takes about a minute rather than seconds to open up your site, or even just clicking on “reply.”
No changes at my end to cause it. Could it be the inclusion of a digital version of the Ottawa Citizen article?
    :-/
    But remember, I'm technically-challenged.

  4. OK, everything seems copacetic – good excuse to use that weird word 😉
I'll try not to monopolize your site.
