There are lots of issues the BC NDP is avoiding getting pinned down on and opting instead to offer “reviews” or “audits” before announcing decisions. So, voters in BC will go to the polls on May 14 without ever knowing where the BC stand on the following issues (page references are to the BC NDP Platform):
- Where will the money come from to make BC Ferries become “an integral part of BC’s transportation infrastructure“. Dunno. NDP will “Freeze ferry fares at current rates while an audit is undertaken and a long-term vision is developed.” (p 5)
- Should there be a ban on fracking, the controversial method of extracting oil and natural gas from rock formations? Maybe. Maybe not. NDP will “undertake an independent, expert-led public review of fracking and the impact of oil and gas development.” (p. 41)
- Will the NDP privatize provincial wholesale and retail booze business? NDP will “Undertake a comprehensive review to modernize & improve BC’s liquor laws.(p 4)
- How will NDP help developmentally disabled adults? No answers but promises to “Strengthen Community Living BC by conducting an independent review and providing more funding for direct services.” (p 15)
- Will there be enough cheap power in B.C.? NDP will try to make that happen promising “within the limits of existing contracts, review Independent Power Project contracts to ensure British Columbians receive the best value for their dollars”
UPDATE: I am reminded of a BC NDP “Reality Check” put out a few days ago in which the BC NDP note that the BC Liberals engaged in at least as much “reviewing” and “consulting.” So, for the record, here’s this from the NDP:
FACT: Since becoming Premier two years ago, Christy Clark has undertaken at least 76 reviews of government policy, including major reviews of BC Hydro’s clean energy policy, BC Ferries, TransLink, raw log exports, timber supply, the education funding formula, Community Living BC, student financial aid and many, many more.
And there’s more.
In their 2013 platform, the BC Liberals have committed to the following reviews, studies and consultations:
1. “core review of government ministries”
2. “Initiate and consult” on a transportation strategy for Vancouver Island
3. “Following consultation”, increase area-based forestry tenures
4. “Commence discussions” on revenue sharing with rural resource communities
5. “Consult” on the Water Sustainability Act
6. “Examine the feasibility” of developing a provincial designated protected area in the Klappan
7. “Establish a round table” on how to balance the environment with jobs and wealth
8. “Complete the study” on protecting our coasts
9. “White paper” on the issues of people with disabilities
Saying one thing and doing another is why in this election more and more British Columbians are looking for change.
You know, regardless of the issues that the Liberals have had I still can’t understand why anyone would vote for a party led by Adrian Dix. The simple fact of the matter is that the man committed fraud, he obstructed justice, lied to the police, lied to the people of B.C., and he committed a CRIMINAL offense. He should not even be allowed to run for office, never mind be a candidate for the provinces top job – and for the record, the Minister of Justice… reports to the PREMIER. What kind of a role model is he?
If you take his story… basically it is this: Break the law and get a $70,000 severance cheque… OH and how about we give you the provinces top job to boot?
Regardless of if he is “sorry” or not, there are consequences to our actions, and we should have to live with those consequences. This is a man who has so little respect for the citizens of this province that he rubs his past into our faces. He is telling fraudsters… it’s OK, you will get away with it… just look at me, I did and now I will be king!
The liberals may not be perfect, and they may have their issues – just as any other political party does. But at least Christie Clark did not knowingly commit fraud and then lie to the police and the public about it.
OH and did everyone forget that he committed the fraud to try to cover up for some other things that were going on that were on the edge of being illegal?
It’s disgusting that anyone in this province, or on this planet, would think it is OK to support this man. How can he be trusted? HE CAN’T
Once a fraudster – always a fraudster.
