E-5 Emergency resolution on the on-going crisis in First Nations Communities

WHEREAS the continuing incation of the Conservative government has pushed the arleady heightened sense of frustration felt by First Nations expressed through the Idle No More grassroots movement to a tipping point : 

WHEREAS in a country like ours, no one should have to risk their health to be heard by this Government; and

WHEREA the path that this Conservative government has choses unnecessarily escalates tension among First Nations and sets the stage for future confrontations;

BE IT RESOLVED that the New Democratic Party demands the immediate fulfillment of commitments made by the Government of Canada at both the January 24, 2012 and January 11, 2013 meetings; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT a New Democrat government would renew the Crown-First Nations relationship on a respectful nation-to-nation basis.

 

Motion passes.

  1. Maybe the NDP should ask why this reserve is so broke with all the money it has received. As for the housing issue what happened to the housing units given them by DeBeers? Where has all the money gone given them by DeBeers? Why has none of the money given to the band council reached the people? Maybe the NDP should be looking into possible corruption on the part of the band council! As for health issues the band chief doesn’t look like she’s suffering any ill effects from her supposed hunger strike. She barely looks like she’s even lost any weight.

    Here’s a thought. If there is such a problem on the reserves why don’t we stop giving aid to Africa, etc. and use it for them instead.

  2. The ndp are no more interested in the wealth fare of the aboriginals needs than they are for Bil C-377 for workers who want to know where their union dues are being spent on which the ndp refuse to support.
