Former Supreme Court Justice jumps into Liberal leadership race

Well, here’s something you don’t see everyday: A retired Supreme Court Justice — Ian Binnie — endorses Liberal leadership candidate George Takach:

Binnie, in endorsing Takach, notes he’s known him for 25 years and says “I think it’s important the country not be left to career politicians.”

  1. So the country is too important to be left to career politicians? Last time I looked the Supreme Court had pretty much superceded parliament on many issues declaring themselves the final arbiter of rights, and constitutionality of laws passed by parliament. Seems to me this former Supreme Court Justice was already running the country in many ways. Might be a bit of a demotion, even as PM.
Personally I’ll take a career politician over unelected judges anyday.

  2. Don,

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Frankly, given the judgements brought down by some of these over-paid lawyers (aren’t they all overpaid though?) I would rather take the advice of Judge Judy.

  3. I am with you Don on this one. Our unelected judges have turned Canadians basic equality upside down, we are rapidly becoming South Africa north. Thanks to our judges we now have two standards of Justice.
If you have the good fortune of birth in the right ethnic group, there is no limits to what you can get away with, and collect a government cheque as you laugh your way to the bank. Animal farm anyone??
